Pro/Expert course pre-ride:
Saturday, Sept 8th.
Be ready to ride from Cedro Peak Campground at 9am. We'll be doing the entire course with a Garmin so we can get the
topo map with elevation profile out by Monday PM.
Pre-race trailwork:
Saturday, August 25th, meet at Cedro Peak Campground at 7:30am.
>>Thanks to the "6 muchachos" who showed up, moved rocks, dug out some rocks, lopped some branches, rolled some
rocks, threw some rocks, curled some rocks, etc.... We were able to make the Cedro Tower Trail more fun and clean up many
of the lines. Finishing out the bottom "gully trail" was a major plus as well. It's still gnarly but much more fun!
Event directions:
- From Tijeras (7 miles east of ABQ on I-40 or come south from Santa FE on
NM 14 thru Madrid to Tijeras).
- South on NM 337 for 5.1 miles, turn left (east) on Juan Tomas Rd
(this is also Forest
Rd 242). There is pavement for this stretch.
- Continue 0.6 miles to Forest Rd 252 (a gravel road to your left).
-
Left (north) on FR 252 for 1.5 miles to the Camp Ground. This road goes up a valley with some private houses then curves left
and takes you to the Camp Ground.

a good cause.
**Promoter's note: The first two MTB races I ever did were at Cedro Peak in 1993 and it's coming full circle;
this is also the first event I have ever promoted. This is MountainTop Cycling's first time promoting a race; we are excited
to give NM a championship worthy event! Team member Chris Briggs is an old-hand at promoting and did an amazing job last year
promoting Cedro Peak - NMORS #11. Obviously we all love Cedro and keep coming back for more....

The final course map with elevation profile will be uploaded on Monday Sept 10th.
Pro/Expert will be racing about 15mins longer, Sport/SS the same as last year, and beginners the same as last year.
Course elevation is between 6200' at the bottom of chamisoso canyon and 7800' at Cedro Peak. Temps should be in
the mid 80's to low 90's.
Some of you may remember the 'Cedro Tower Trail', that gnarly downhill from Cedro peak
that we raced in the mid-late 90's. We're bringing gnarly back... This is as true a XC course as I could imagine...actually
if only we had a stream somewhere in there it would be perfecto.
The 'Just for Fun'
Kids Race: (Ages 5-13)
This is a real family event and this is where the spectating will happen! The
free kids race will be held after the XC racers finish and before awards. The first kids race should go off around 11:30 or
noon. There will be three kids races and we will split them up by age and number of racers. Bring your cowbells and cheers!
At Sandia Peak we had about 13 kids under 14yrs old racing so let's see if we can break the 20 mark.
We will be accepting donations to Cystic Fibrosis so if they want to bring some piggy bank change or allowance money
and chip-in it would be much appreciated.
*The kids race is 'Just for Fun'...no championship medals or NMORS points awarded. There will be prizes though!
Timing: by Orval Hart from Los Alamos. He is great at this and that should help keep the results
efficient (remember La Tierra and Los Alamos this year?).
Awards and Prizes:
Fat Tire Cycles
and The Bicycle Company have donated bags o' schwag for the kids, Beginners, and Sports. The Pro's, Experts, and SS's
will be rewarded for their efforts with some dinero.
All State Champions will receive a unique prize from MountainTop Cycling,
something to hold your beverage. Top three in each category will get a USA Cycling State Championship Medal.
Other good stuff:
Dr. Atchley from the NM Chiropractic Center and massage
therapists from Sunshine Massage will be onsite to provide consultation and services. It's all about feeling good....
Why Cedro?
Cedro's trails have been praised by all who ride them and written up
as some of the best NM singletrack in Bike. Charlie Ervin of Two Wheel Drive has a great map of the area and with that in
hand you can have one of the best days exploring on a bike. Come ride them and answer the question yourself!
Camping/Hotel-Motel information:
This year we got the campgrounds instead of the Society of High Desert D&D warriors!!! The campgrounds are available
to all registered riders and their families. The nighttime lows get into the 40's and daytime highs in the upper 80's...perfect
camping weather!
